The boat took me back to Malé today and the weather was much better. There is a big wall surrounding the island to protect it from the waves. The wall is 3m high but the photograph shows that the waves are sometimes even higher than that!

Today I went to see the Lale International School. It is a private school and has very good facilities. I met a boy called Luaiyyu who knew a lot about the problems in the Maldives. He said that if we don’t look after the world we will soon have to ‘grow gills and live like fish’. His sister goes to a Government School that I will visit next week.

I am now staying on an island called Hulhumalé. It is a new island next to the capital, Malé, and is made out of dead coral and sand. It has a beautiful beach but it is not a real one. There are not many houses here yet because it is a brand new town.
