Today the weather was terrible! It was so windy and rainy that it was easy to see how some islands might get washed away. As we left Malé we could see big waves crashing over the wall that protects it. Most of the islands don’t have big walls so I am hoping to find out different ways that they try to protect themselves from bad weather.

Today I visited an island called Dhangheti. It was sad to see that a lot of the sand has been washed away by the waves. The trees are falling down because their roots are in the sand that is being washed away. The people on the island have tried to build strong walls out of sand bags but the island is still slowly disappearing.

Today I visited Rahdhigga Island and it is very beautiful. It is very small and there is only one house. There are no walls to protect the island from the sea. The plant in the photograph can’t grow properly anymore because the sea has washed away all the sand. We stayed until night time and had dinner on the beach.
