Today I went diving in the sea. I wanted to look at the coral reefs, which are a bit like underwater mountains. The coral reefs often surround the islands and help to stop the waves crashing onto the beach. The strong sea can sometimes damage the coral. I saw a lot of coral that had been broken. It is easy to understand how much damage the waves could do to the islands if there was no coral reefs to stop them.

The boat took me back to Malé today and the weather was much better. There is a big wall surrounding the island to protect it from the waves. The wall is 3m high but the photograph shows that the waves are sometimes even higher than that!

Today I went to see the Lale International School. It is a private school and has very good facilities. I met a boy called Luaiyyu who knew a lot about the problems in the Maldives. He said that if we don’t look after the world we will soon have to ‘grow gills and live like fish’. His sister goes to a Government School that I will visit next week.
